These videos were created to provide more accessible training for those interested in advanced electrical work in a Broadway roadhouse. Mostly focusing on the responsibilities of the Head Lx for the Eccles Theater in SLC.

This presentation is from my Lx 101 class (Q1 2025). This class was presented to Local 99 members and hiring hall laborers.

Course Description: This class will cover a quick tour of the Eccles Theater and explain where things are in the building.  I will go over the process of how shows operate in the building, including: the advance, load-in, show runs, and the load-out.  I will cover different tools we use as electricians in the theatre and how to use them, as well as a price breakdown and where to buy them.  I will teach the proper way to hang lights, dress/coil cables, and focus a conventional light.  I will give a comprehensive breakdown of the different types of lights and cables you will commonly find in the theatre.  I will also give a brief overview of ETC Eos lighting console hardware. 

Learning how to maintain/repair lights and cables as well as further lessons on ETC Eos software will come in late 2nd quarter.

Course Description: This class will cover learning how to maintain/repair lights and cables.  I will teach how touring productions build shows, as well as what each device is and how they communicate with the rig as a whole. I will talk about the responsibilities of every electrics position on a touring theatre production.  This will also include a soldering workshop and how to properly use a multimeter.  I will demonstrate how touring shows tie into a venue and control the lights in the house using their board/rack.  Future lessons will include basic drafting and paperwork, as well as covering the responsibilities and expectations of a house electrician.  These lessons will be held late 3rd quarter.
